About Us
Since 2008, the Open Mic House has operated as an art-space music venue for emerging artists, hosting weekly live performances. It was a community hub for artists to meet, collaborate, get inspired, and try out their material in front of a supportive audience.
With complete renovations to the two-storey building expected in 2027, and an addition of a commercial space with two levels of outdoor seating right next door, there is time and opportunity to choose how to renovate and redesign the Open Mic House to best suit the needs of artists!
In 2025, The Open Mic House formally become a nonprofit society in order to better support the community, culture, and heritage of the Open Mic House to continue and thrive. At this juncture, the house will be unavailable for shows as it gets a new lease on life. In the background, our volunteer board is working hard to gather community input and design the next stage of the Open Mic House to suit the needs of artists and the community. Whether it will operate as a music venue and cafe, a small studio space to allow artists to express their ideas, or hosting creative workshops to guide artists through their own creative process, or all of the above, the Open Mic House can continue its impact on the local artistic community in Halifax.
